Apple Maps is a brilliant app but it is still not used to that much extent as most of the Apple users still prefer Google Maps over it. It’s been over three years since the launch of Apple Maps and it has come a long way ahead. It didn’t initially get a great response from the users owing to the persisting bugs and setbacks in the app. Besides, Google Maps had already gone mainstream by the time it was launched.
But as it turns out, Apple Maps has been completely revamped over the years and is now just as advanced and powerful as the Google Maps. In fact, there are some exceptional features in Apple Maps that you won’t even find in Google Maps. In this blog, we have listed 5 such cool features that can help ameliorate your navigation experience on Apple Maps. Let’s get started!

Pin Dropping
This feature can be helpful for you if you want to navigate to a place you don’t know the address of but you are partly familiar with the location on maps. Just drop a pin anywhere on the Maps to select the location. Just tap and hold anywhere on Maps to drop a pin. Once you have done that, you instantly get directions to it.
It can also be used to mark a specific location on Maps and save it for the future. You can create new contacts or add a location pin to an existing contact to remember their location. For instance, you can drop a pin on Maps while you are at your friend’s house and save the location to their contact information.
Use Siri For Maps
With Apple Maps, you can evoke Siri to find a location for you instead of typing the whole thing. This feature is especially helpful while you are driving and can’t type the location. All you have to do is, say “Hey Siri! Get me the directions to somewhere.” You can also ask her questions like, “Get me the directions to the nearest Gas Station” or “Is there any Motel nearby.”
Flyover View
With this exceptional feature, you can have a bird’s eye view of a city or location. While this is not primarily meant for navigation, it highlights all the local points of interest in a city. That way, it makes it easy to decide where you want to go. The Flyover Tour view is available in 150 cities of the world and the list is rapidly growing. To check if the Flyover view works in your city, search for your city and then tap on its label down below. After that, you’ll see “Flyover Tour” option if it’s available in your city.
See The Apps That Locals Are Using
While you are on the move or roaming in an area, you can also see the apps that are popular in that particular area. These are the apps that locals have been using quite frequently. Some of these apps can be useful to you while you are there. To view these apps, tap on your location indicator. From the popup that appears, tap on “Current Location.”
Control The Volume
Like you already know, Apple Maps dictates the directions to you to help you navigate while you are driving or simple walking. You may not be familiar with this, but you can also control the volume of your Apple Maps application without changing the rest of the sound settings on your iPhone. You can adjust the volume of the app as per your comfort or turn it off completely if you don’t want the dictations.
