Apple TV Troubleshooting guide

Troubleshooting Apple TV For Common Issues
Apple TV 4K has turned out to be the most successful streaming device from Apple. With this, Apple has introduced some brand new features such as 4K UHD support, HDR imagery, P3 wide gamut color display and numerous enhancements in terms of improved Siri features, new home screen and Apple Music.

While the functionality is quite similar to previous Apple TV devices, there’s a lot to explore in Apple TV 4K. But many users face difficulty while performing several tasks due to a new interface and added features. So here’s a basic troubleshooting guide to fix the most common issues that arise in Apple TV 4K and other Apple TV devices.

AirPlay Not Working

The AirPlay feature in Apple TV lets you mirror the contents of your Mac, iPhone or iPad on your TV screen at the press of a button. While the feature works flawlessly most of the times, it may start giving trouble at some point in time. For example, if you enable AirPlay on your Mac or iPhone, sometimes it doesn’t detect your Apple TV. But it is mostly because you probably didn’t enable AirPlay on your Apple TV. Remember, AirPlay must be enabled on both the devices for it to work. To enable AirPlay on your Apple TV, go to Settings > AirPlay and select from the two options i.e Everyone or Anyone on the same Network. Selecting former will allow any Apple device within its vicinity to connect with the Apple TV and the latter will allow access to the Apple devices on the same WiFi network as your Apple TV.

Storage Issues

If you usually install a lot of apps and games on your Apple TV, it might get low on storage. This is obviously not good for your Apple TV for many reasons. Not only does it refrain you from installing new apps, but if you are running low on storage, you might start experiencing frequent app crashes. While the ultimate solution is to uninstall the unused apps, you can speed up the process by examining which apps are consuming maximum storage space. To check that, go to Settings > General > Manage Storage.

Sound Issues

It happens many times on Apple TV that the sound goes off unexpectedly. In most of the cases, it happens when you have connected external audio hardware with your Apple TV. In that case, first, restart your television as well as the audio hardware and see if that makes any difference. If even that doesn’t work, check your audio settings. Go to Settings > Audio and Video and make sure that the right speakers are selected. Also, make sure that the Audio Mode is set to Auto.

How To Reset
If you’ve tried everything but your Apple TV is still experiencing glitches like app crashes or frequent hanging, the best way to fix this is to hard reset the device. However, keep in mind that performing a hard reset will erase all the local content saved on your Apple TV including app data, browsing history and bookmarks etc. To restore your Apple TV to factory settings, go to Settings > System > Reset.
